Kiddies stretching

Ok, allowedly it is not always easy to be a coach, a teacher and the nice “old” girl simultaneously. And it is definitely not always easy to stay calm when you try to explain something to an excited little girl while another dwarf tries to convince you that it is by all means better to invent pink trampolines because you would find them better in the dark…
But nevertheless, I love my little job and never regretted to approve to coach my little ones.
My little ones… well they are a specific case ; ) All “my” kids are between 5 and 10 years old and want to learn to jump trampoline correctly. Although they do not pay always attention to my advises and instructions they do their best and do a great job for their age. Read more »

And a bit of history for the interested ones ;)

Trampoline in the ancient times: A funny game?

Actually trampoline was known very early but not considered as a competitive sport but rather as a hunting device or a funny game. It is said that the first “trampoline” was developed by the Inuit and was mainly used when hunting whales. You have to know that Alaska is covered with ice completely in the cold sessions and that many whales are in the Northern parts of the Sea due to rich plankton sources. The Inuit however needed the fed and the flesh to survive the hard winters of Alaska.  As a result they were not only hunting smaller mammals (like seals and robes) but also greater ones like whales being in the seas around Alaska.

Since whales live as is generally known in water and everything was covered with ices it should not be that hard to reach them. Nevertheless another problem arose: “How to trace them?” Due to the even landscape it was very hard for the Inuit to find any whales in the arctic desert. Since they could not build any raised blinds due to a lack of wood, they switched to a material that they could get : Seals’ skin.

The idea was actually simple:  They used the seal’s skin to create a kind of blanket that was strong enough to endure the weight of a jumping human being. The blanket was hold by several other Inuit and the one on the blanket should jump as high as possible in order to trace whales. I know that it is really hard to imagine. That is the reason why you should have a look at that internet page of the games museum waterloo where you will find amazing pictures. Read more »

Welcome to my world!

Welcome to my very first blog! I hope you are all enjoying it and become a “trampoline-lover” as well.

My name is Sarah and I do trampoline for nearly 12 years now and never regretted to do so. Unfortunately not many sport clubs can offer trampoline because of very high costs and a lack of experienced coaches. As a result there are just 4 clubs in Berlin having that sport in program although all children I know that far really love that sport and will jump all day and night if they can. So I am really lucky that I was able to join one club.

My club is called VFL-Lichtenrade which is the biggest and best club in Berlin and Brandenburg regarding trampoline.  After many competitions and days full of training I don’t jump anymore because of fear.

Nevertheless, I could never leave the VFL and give up trampoline completely.

As a result I started to teach smaller children (whom you will get to know later) how to jump correctly once a week.  This is really fun and works the better the younger the children are. Why? Well the older ones start to

think about everything which is really not good regarding trampoline because you get scared ( that is exactly what happened to me).
I know that trampoline is not that popular but believe me it is really great but also more difficult as is seems to be. I
hope that I arouse your curiosity and that you will become addicted to that great sport as well.
